Rant: My broker's spread blew out during a news spike and I panicked

Ouch! That fill is brutal, man. I got wrecked the same way during an NFP drop last year, my stop was set at 1.0850 and it filled at 1.0835, cost me way more than I planned. Now I just flat out close everything before big news and grab a coffee instead. Watching the chaos from the sidelines beats getting burned by a spread that jumps from 1 pip to 8 in two seconds.
