Dropping my saw into a stump cut instead of fighting it saved my back last Thursday
Had a 32 inch silver maple removal over in Cedar Falls where the stump was right against a fence, and I kept fighting the chain trying to come in from the side. After about 20 minutes of cussing I just plunged straight down the middle of the holding wood and worked outward, and the whole thing tipped clean. Took maybe 4 minutes total. My ground guy thought I was nuts but the bar never pinched once. The trick is you have to read the lean right first or you're gonna get a barber chair, so don't try it on a heavy back leaner. Anyone else cut stumps this way or do you all still go around the edge?
