Why does nobody talk about running cat6 before the drywall goes up
I wired a 2,400 sq ft house in Franklin last Tuesday and ran cat6 to every room before the drywall crew got there. The builder said I was wasting time, but I knocked it out in 4 hours with a spool and a drill. When the homeowners moved in, they wanted cameras on all four corners and a doorbell cam, and I had zero walls to cut. I saved them about $800 in drywall repairs and made my install clean. Has anyone else had a builder fight you on prewire, and how do you get them to see the value?
Why do builders always act like cutting holes later is no big deal? I dealt with the same thing last month on a job in Spring Hill, ran cat6 and coax to every room while the walls were still open and the gc kept giving me looks like I was burning his schedule. Tbh it took me maybe half a day and when the family wanted a mesh setup with a node in the garage plus a camera over the back door, everything was already there. The drywall guy even told me later he wishes more people did it that way because patching is a pain and it never looks right. Ngl I just keep a one page sheet showing what the patch work costs per hole and hand it to the builder at the walkthrough, that usually shuts them up.
