Showerthought: my cat used to sleep on my keyboard, now she has a heated mat and ignores me
For 3 years my cat Muffin treated my laptop like her personal bed, and I mean every single time I sat down to work she was on the keys within 30 seconds. I got so fed up I spent $28 on a heated cat mat from Chewy back in January and figured that was the end of it. Nope, she used it for a week and then went right back to the keyboard, except now she also wants to sit on the mat when I'm not looking. Then a friend in Denver told me cats want whatever smells like you, so I put one of my old t-shirts on the mat. She's been sleeping there for 2 months straight and hasn't touched my keyboard since. It's wild that a $28 mat plus a dirty shirt worked better than anything else I tried. Has anyone else noticed their cat only wants the thing that smells like them?
Does your shirt trick still work if you wash it, or does the smell go away and she loses interest? Seems like you would be stuck never washing that one shirt again.
My shirt went through the wash twice last month and she still texts me back, so whats the longest you've gone without washing yours before it stopped working?
