Tried the cash envelope thing for 3 weeks and somehow ended up spending $80 more on groceries
I think seeing all that cash in one spot made me just grab from it without thinking about it, which is the total opposite of the point. Did the physical cash thing backfire on anyone else or am I just doing it wrong?
Did you find yourself breaking big bills more often? That was my problem, I'd have a twenty and just spend it because it felt like free money somehow. The envelope system only works if you actually stop when the envelope is empty, and I never did. I lasted about a month before I went back to my card.
