inQuestion about the sudden 'wellness' push at my job (pretty sure it's just to make us work more hours without complaining)
Exactly, that "letting people walk all over me" part is so real. It's wild how much mental space gets freed up when you stop managing other people's expectations. For me, it meant actually scheduling my own stuff first, like a workout, before saying yes to anything else.

inI thought those laser level things were just a gimmick until I had to lay out a 200 foot retaining wall by myself last fall.
You're not wrong about the beam. I had to wait until dusk just to see the dot. Setting grade over that distance was a nightmare, mostly because my dog kept running through the beam and I'd lose the line. Ended up using a rotary laser with a grade rod and a lot of patience. Felt less like a contractor and more like a surveyor who lost his crew.

inI was finishing a patio in Mesa last month and a homeowner pointed out my trowel angle was too steep.
Yeah, I read that too steep can trap air, miles_campbell39.

inFigured out a way to avoid ear squeezes on deep dives.
Ever notice how so many problems come from trying to force things instead of just giving them time? Your point about taking more time to equalize really hits on that. I see it everywhere, like people rushing a new relationship or trying to learn a skill too fast. It usually backfires. Slowing down, like you did on the dive, is almost always the fix for stuff that feels stuck or under pressure. It's a simple fix but we forget it all the time.
