inMy kitchen backsplash looked awful until I swapped the grout color
Man I did the exact same thing with my bathroom floor tiles last year. Picked a light tan grout thinking it would look clean and classy, but it just looked like my floor had a constant dirt mustache.

inThat week where three dryers all had the same weird problem
You ever think maybe the universe is just testing you? Like one week it's all dryers just to see if you're paying attention to the details.

inSwitched from striking joints with a tuck pointer to a 5-gallon bucket lid scrap
Yeah the wet sponge trick is a lifesaver for cleaning up drag marks. I actually started using one of those cheap kitchen sponges with the scrubby side on it. I wet it down good and give the joint a light pass about 5 minutes after striking, when it's still a little soft but not wet. Cleans it up way cleaner than a brush does.

inRant about that one inspector who thought my drysuit zipper was a fake
Bet you money that old timer has fixed more blown zippers in bad conditions than you've lubed up on dry land. Guys who learned diving before fancy waxes hit the market know that a good brass zipper with proper teeth alignment is what really matters, not a tube of overpriced goo. Your $4,000 repair job probably failed because of bad alignment or a worn out seal, not because he skipped the lube. Most of these modern zipper care routines are just gear companies selling you something you don't actually need. Leave the old timers alone and focus on making sure your zipper track is clean and your pulls are solid, that's what actually keeps the water out.

inTIL I was washing my cast iron skillet all wrong for years
...and then I spent six months wondering why my eggs kept sticking like crazy. Turns out I was basically sanding down the pan every time I cleaned it. Now I just wipe it out with a paper towel and a little salt, and that old Lodge is slicker than my mom's nonstick ever was.
