My field supervisor said "the dirt tells you where to dig, not the map" and I been chewing on that for weeks

Funny how the timing of that click is different for everyone, @rowangonzalez. For you it was instant, for some people it takes weeks of standing around with a shovel before the brain catches up. The question I keep coming back to is this: what dirt has actually told you to dig somewhere the map would have steered you wrong? Like, give me a real example of a time the ground contradicted the paperwork and the ground was right.

Three weeks later and that line still sits with me too, it's the kind of truth that hits different the more you turn it over.

@rowangonzalez yeah but I gotta say, the way you phrased it originally kinda mixed up the timing a little. That line landed on day one for me, not three weeks later. It was the moment I heard it that it clicked, not after sitting with it.
