The old Sears manager at Franklin Park Mall told me the fountain pump was the key

He said once that pump died, the whole place felt empty and people stopped lingering. I laughed it off back then but now I see how that little thing set the decline in motion. Anybody else notice a single broken feature kill a mall's vibe?

Buddy of mine said the same thing about the food court fountain at Southland, once it stopped working the whole place felt dead.

@jessel35 what killed the pump though? Water bill or just neglect?
