inWorst camping trip ever when my tent collapsed at 2am in the pouring rain at Yosemite
I read somewhere that something like 30% of tent failures happen because people don't practice setting them up before the actual trip. I mean, not that it would have helped much with a broken pole in the rain. That sounds rough though.

inPut $3,000 into upgrading the HVAC in my strip plaza last fall
Stick some foam gaskets behind those outlet covers too... that's where half my draft was sneaking in and I never would've guessed it.

inFinally got a lease signed on a dead strip mall in Akron
Yeah but I gotta push back a little on calling a roof drain patch for $4k a steal. I've been doing this long enough to know that price tag usually means they only fixed the surface problem, not the actual issue behind it. A lot of these guys will seal up a visible leak and call it done, but that water's still finding a way somewhere else. And with those old flat roofs, you're really just buying time until the real repair comes due. I'd rather pay double now and know it's done right than pay $4k for a bandaid that lasts a year.

inHot take: Most homeowners don't need a full diagnostic machine
Bet the guy in Phoenix has seen it all. What's the biggest thing you've heard a unit tell you that a code on a screen would've missed?

inTried to build a cheap Iron Man helmet from a $3 foam floor mat... 6 days later I finally got the faceplate right
6 days to get a faceplate right out of foam. That's about 5 days and 23 hours longer than my attention span would last for a project like that. I once tried to fix a wobbly bar stool for about 20 minutes before I just shoved a matchbook under one leg and called it good. Respect for having the patience to sand and paint that thing until it actually looks like something out of a movie.
