I always thought mileage didn't matter, just the experience. But hitting that number made me realize how much my body adapted over the months. Anyone else find a milestone that changed how they see their own limits?

I spent last Saturday exploring the original Oxford Valley Mall in Pennsylvania, the one that closed around 2015. What struck me was how the old design had narrow hallways and confusing layouts, while the newer mall that replaced it has open spaces and clear sightlines. It makes me wonder if poor architecture was a bigger factor in these closures than people realize, anyone else notice this pattern in their local dead malls?

Hit 200 briskets this weekend and here's what shocked me

I just crossed 200 briskets on my Lang 84 over the past 3 years. What got me is how the last 50 have been way more consistent than the first 150. I stopped overthinking temps and wrapping times and just let the meat tell me when it's done. The stall still catches me off guard sometimes though. Anyone else hit a milestone that made you change your whole process?

The day I found out I'd been crimping pins wrong for 2 years

I was wrestling with a D-sub connector on a King Air last Tuesday and a senior tech walked by and saw me using the wrong color positioner on my M22520 crimper. He pulled out a scrap pin and showed me how the insulation grip was supposed to look after a proper crimp - mine had been smashing the wire barrel flat every time. Anyone else get caught in a bad habit like this that just made sense after someone showed you the right way?

My brine ratio took me 6 months to get right

I kept getting mushy pickles and couldn't figure out why. Turns out I was using a 2% brine when I needed 3.5% for crunchy cucumbers. It took me half a year of trial and error before I found a fermentation forum post that explained the difference. Now I measure everything by weight instead of volume and it's night and day. Has anyone else dealt with soggy veg from getting the salt wrong?

Stopped buying travel insurance after 15 years of never using it

Had to cancel a trip to Nashville last year because my cousin got sick. Called the insurance company I had been paying $60 per trip to for 15 years. They denied the claim because her doctor note wasn't specific enough. Never once filed a claim before that and got absolutely nothing back. Now I just put that $60 into a separate savings account instead. Has anyone else stopped paying for it after getting burned?

Vent: my cheap speed square bent on a roofing job yesterday...

I was out on a roof in Phoenix around 3pm and my $6 speed square just folded when I leaned on it to mark a rafter cut. The aluminum went soft and now all my 90 degree lines are off by like 2 degrees. Anyone had a square just give out like that in the heat?
