I was folding towels last Tuesday when he said it, and I almost asked him to repeat it because I usually spend $75 on just me in about four days. I went home and taped a receipt to the fridge for a week, and turns out my problem is the little $4 and $6 trips to the corner store that add up to like $60 without me noticing. For folks who track it, do you count the snack stops too or just the real grocery runs?
Snack stops are the sneaky ones, no question. You think a $4 trip to the corner store is nothing and then boom, it's $60 you can't even remember spending. My trick is to count every single receipt, even the gas station gum, because that's where the truth hides. Skip the little stops and you're basically lying to yourself about your own spending. Taping them all to the fridge is the move, it hurts to look at but it works.
