A comment from my sister-in-law at a family BBQ in Cincinnati

We were at my brother's place last July, and his wife, Karen, asked me point-blank if I ever regretted 'giving my baby away.' She said it in front of everyone while we were flipping burgers. I told her I placed my son for adoption 8 years ago, and it was a choice, not a 'giving away.' The room got quiet, and I just walked inside. Has anyone else had a family member completely miss the point like that?

A simple mirror check in a Denver shop changed how I see my work

I was visiting a friend's barbershop in Denver last month and watched him finish a cut. Before he took off the cape, he held up a small hand mirror and showed the client the back from three different angles. The client's face lit up, and he said, 'I never really see it from the sides.' I realized I was just doing a quick back check and calling it good. Now I make a point to show every single client at least two mirror angles, and the tips have gotten better. Has anyone else added a small step that made a big difference in how clients feel?

I finally gave in and watched that show everyone was talking about

My friend kept telling me to watch 'The Bear' for over a month, but I thought a show about a kitchen would be boring. I watched the first episode last Tuesday and was hooked by the end of it. The stress and the yelling felt way too real, like my own job on a bad day. Has anyone else been surprised by a show they thought they'd hate?

Remember when you could actually see the grease ports on a bottom bracket?

Last week I was working on a 2018 carbon frame with press-fit bearings and had to use a blind bearing puller for the third time that day. Three years ago at the shop in Eugene, we had a 90s steel bike come in with those big, open cup-and-cone bearings you could just pack by hand. What's the weirdest 'progress' you've had to adapt to on newer bikes?
