That one Wednesday where every single shot pulled perfectly

I had this random day about 3 weeks ago at my shop in Austin. First espresso at 6am came out with perfect tiger striping and a 28 second pull time. Then back to back every shot for the next 4 hours was dialed in, no adjustments needed, which never happens. Even my coworker Sarah noticed and said it felt like the machine was reading our minds. Has anyone else had a day where everything just clicked like that for no obvious reason?

I met my birth mother for the first time at a diner in Portland two weeks ago and she told me she still thinks about me every Christmas morning. I started a new job at a marketing firm in Austin about 3 months ago. My manager asks me to send her a daily status report with every single task I complete, down to the minute. She also CC's herself on all my emails and follows up with me within an hour if I don't reply to a client. I spent 4 hours last week just updating her on my workflow. Has anyone else worked under someone like this and found a way to get them to back off a little?

I saw a guy in Chicago using old milk jugs as planters and it blew my mind

I was walking past an apartment building in Lincoln Park last week and saw this whole balcony setup with tomatoes growing out of cut-up plastic jugs. He said he poked holes in the bottom and filled them with a 50/50 mix of potting soil and compost. My cherry tomatoes in their fancy pots have never looked that good, so I'm switching my setup this weekend. Has anyone else tried this kind of upcycled container and had good results?

Hot take: I swore by big pots for tomatoes until last Tuesday.

I had a single cherry tomato plant in a 5 gallon bucket that got knocked over in a storm, so I stuck it in a leftover 2 gallon fabric pot as a quick fix. That plant is now covered in more green fruit than any of my others... the roots seem to love the air pruning. I'm rethinking my whole setup for next year. Has anyone else had a plant do way better in a smaller home?

Shoutout to the chicken vet who told me about their weird sleep thing

I always thought my hens were just being lazy when they sat still with their eyes open in the afternoon. I mentioned it to Dr. Miller at the county animal clinic last month, and she told me it's called unihemispheric slow-wave sleep. Basically, one half of their brain sleeps while the other half stays awake to watch for danger. She said they can even sleep with one eye open, literally. I looked it up in a book at the library called 'The Private Life of Chickens' and it's totally true. It blew my mind that my little backyard flock has this built-in survival trick. Now I feel bad for ever shooing them off their favorite spots. Does anyone else's birds do this really obvious staring-into-space nap?
