Overheard a foreman say load charts are 'just guidelines' at a job site in Newark yesterday
I was grabbing coffee near the trailer and heard this older guy telling a new operator that the load chart numbers are more like suggestions. Said he's been running cranes for 20 years and never had an issue eyeballing it. I stood there for a second and felt my stomach drop. That kind of thinking gets people hurt or worse. Has anyone else run into older guys on site who totally ignore the charts?
Did you say anything to him right there? I had a similar situation a few years back with a guy who swore his gut was better than the chart. I just asked him if his gut was going to explain to a widow why her husband was dead. He didn't talk to me for a week, but I saw him checking the charts after that.
