Got called out on my torque wrench technique back in '08

Was working a C-check on a 737 in Tulsa. Old timer saw me just going click and moving on. He said 'Kid, you ever listen for the second click? That's the real one.' Changed how I handle every bolt since. Anyone else have a simple tip that stuck with them for years?

My film jammed halfway through a roll at the Grand Canyon

I was on the South Rim trying to finish a roll of Portra 400 when the advance lever locked up completely. I had to open the back in a dark bag later and lost about 8 frames trying to salvage the film. Do you rewind and cut the roll early or try to force the advance and risk tearing the film?

Faced a choice between a new tablet or a better monitor for my art...

I had $400 saved up and needed to upgrade my setup, so I had to pick between a Huion Kamvas 13 drawing tablet or a big 4K monitor for my old Wacom. I went with the Huion to try a screen tablet for the first time, and the drawing feel is way different than I'm used to. Has anyone else switched from a regular tablet to a screen one and had a weird adjustment period?

I finally gave up on packing a separate pair of shoes for every outfit.

For years, I insisted on bringing a different pair to match each look, which ate up half my bag. A trip to Lisbon last fall forced me to try a single pair of versatile black sneakers, and I didn't miss the others once. Has anyone else made a similar swap and found a perfect 'one shoe' for travel?

Got my gear stolen from a cafe in Medellin because I trusted the 'safe' corner spot

Last week I turned my back for maybe two minutes to grab a coffee refill. Came back and my laptop bag with my passport and backup drives was just gone. The cafe staff said it happens all the time, even in the nice areas. What's your go-to move to keep your stuff secure when you're working solo in public?

Just found out the average novel is way shorter than I thought

I was looking at some old publishing data from 2018 and saw that the average published novel is only about 80,000 words. I always pictured them being over 100k, easy. This makes me wonder if we put too much pressure on word count when starting a story. Do you guys aim for a specific length, or just write until it's done?

I always thought my great-aunt's silver locket was just a pretty trinket, but comparing it to the photo of her wearing it in 1943 made me realize it was her only piece of jewelry when she fled Germany.

Seeing her young, scared face in that picture, with the same locket around her neck, turned it from a simple accessory into the most important story my family owns, so what's the one heirloom in your house that holds a story you almost missed?

Turns out, my aunt is a secret board game champion

We had a family reunion and dug out an old Monopoly set. She wiped the floor with all of us, and now we're planning a rematch next month. It's hilarious how competitive she got.

Just nailed using lift bags on a salvage job

I used to fumble with the air valve and either under or over inflate. My lead diver gave me a tip about counting seconds. Tried it today and it worked PERFECTLY. Saved us a bunch of time and hassle. Small win but it makes a big difference.
