I finally gave up on packing a separate pair of shoes for every outfit.
For years, I insisted on bringing a different pair to match each look, which ate up half my bag. A trip to Lisbon last fall forced me to try a single pair of versatile black sneakers, and I didn't miss the others once. Has anyone else made a similar swap and found a perfect 'one shoe' for travel?

My buddy Mark was the same way, his suitcase was basically a shoe store. He went to Japan for two weeks last year and only packed these beat-up white leather sneakers. He said it was a total game changer, he walked miles every day and they went with EVERYTHING, even the one nice dinner out. He came back and sold like three pairs of his other shoes.

The real win is how it changes your whole trip, not just your feet. When you're not worried about your shoes getting wrecked or if they match, you just... go. You see more because you're not planning your day around changing for dinner or avoiding a puddle. That beat-up look means they're already broken in, so no blisters, and you stop caring about them. It frees up so much mental space that you actually enjoy the trip more.
