Got my gear stolen from a cafe in Medellin because I trusted the 'safe' corner spot
Last week I turned my back for maybe two minutes to grab a coffee refill. Came back and my laptop bag with my passport and backup drives was just gone. The cafe staff said it happens all the time, even in the nice areas. What's your go-to move to keep your stuff secure when you're working solo in public?

OH MAN that is the absolute worst feeling. I once left my backpack under a table in a coffee shop and walked away to use the restroom, only to come back and find it gone with my life savings in a notebook. Yeah, I keep my passport in a money belt under my shirt too now, but honestly the most embarrassing thing is I now wrap my charger cord around my ankle like a leashed dog. Looks ridiculous but at least I can feel like a human Guard dog while spilling coffee on myself.

My rule is the laptop cable gets looped around my leg or the chair leg. It's a cheap Kensington lock from Amazon. Thief would have to literally unbolt the table or cut the cable, which buys you the 90 seconds you need. Also, never put the passport in the bag. That stays in a separate pouch under my shirt.
