Vent: A single loose wire on a panel cost me 4 hours of troubleshooting

I was swapping out an old DSC panel for a new Honeywell Vista last Tuesday, and after I powered it up, I kept getting a trouble condition I couldn't clear. Turns out I missed one of the ground wires on the transformer that was barely hanging on inside the old metal box. It took me 4 hours of checking zones and reading manuals before I noticed it. Has anyone else spent way too long chasing a dumb connection like that?

Was dead set against flood coolant for years, finally caved

Always thought flood coolant was just a mess to clean up and a waste of money. Then I had a job last month with 304 stainless that wouldnt stop work hardening and burning up my $40 endmills every 10 parts. First run with flood and I got 60 parts out of one tool, my chip tray looked like a swamp but I saved like $200 in tooling. Anyone else convert from mist or dry and regret not doing it sooner?

That job at the Marriott downtown almost cost me my crew

I was installing carpet in a 12th floor suite at the Marriott near the convention center last Tuesday when the backing on a 15 foot roll just started separating on me. The glue was fresh and the seam was clean, but that cheap backing peeled apart like wet cardboard, and I had to pull the whole damn thing up and redo it at my own cost. Has anyone else seen a batch of carpet with bad backing recently or was I just unlucky?

Rant: that $200 'organic cotton' fabric I ordered online was a total scam

I bought this beautiful organic cotton from some Instagram ad for a summer dress project, paid $200 for enough to make two dresses, and it shrunk so bad after one gentle wash that it barely fits a child. The color faded to this weird grey too, so now I'm stuck with expensive rags. Has anyone found a reliable online source for cotton that doesn't fall apart after one wash?

I finally sat through all 3 hours of that indie film at the little theater on 4th Street

Paid $14 for a ticket and another $8 on popcorn only to have the main character die off screen in the last 5 minutes with zero explanation. The whole theater just sat there in silence like we'd been robbed of our time. Has anyone else ever walked out of a movie feeling like the director just gave up on purpose?

Stripping wallpaper took me 6 hours when I thought it'd be a 1 hour job

I bought a house in Cleveland with floral wallpaper in the kitchen and figured a spray bottle and scraper would do the trick. Turns out the previous owner painted over it with glossy latex, so the water just beaded off and I had to score every inch. Has anyone else run into hidden layers of paint under wallpaper that turned a quick job into a whole weekend?

Finally got a lease signed on a dead strip mall in Akron

I been eyeing this old strip mall on Copley Road for almost 6 months. It's been half empty since 2019 and the parking lot is cracked to hell. But the rent was stupid cheap and it's right off the highway. Last week I finally got a tenant to sign for a laundromat in one of the empty units. Dude runs three other places in the city and says the traffic counts are solid. I had to fix the roof drain and add a new water line but it only cost me like $4k total. Seeing that space go from dark to a working business feels good. Anyone else have luck with neglected properties turning around?

Just hit 100 days straight in my bullet journal and I am shocked I actually stuck with it

I started this thing on a whim in January thinking I'd quit by February, but somehow tracking my moods and habits for 100 days has helped me notice my anxiety spikes come every third Tuesday, has anyone else seen patterns like that pop up after a few months?

Heard my coworker say "just use Dad123" for passwords and it clicked for me

I used to think password managers were overkill. Like, who's really trying to hack my school lunch account? Then I heard my coworker telling a student to use "Dad123" as their computer lab password because it was easy to remember. That made me realize how many people do stuff like that. I signed up for Bitwarden that same week and now I make all my accounts use random passwords. Has anyone else had a moment where they suddenly saw how bad their own password habits were?

Just realized the Titanic ending I always wanted would have ruined the whole movie

For years I wanted Rose to shove Jack onto that door too. But after rewatching it last month I finally got why he stays in the water. That door can only hold one person without tipping and if they both tried it would sink. It hit me that the real ending is about her choosing to live for him not with him. Does anyone else have a movie ending they wished for until they actually thought through the logistics?
