Man, that's wild. Man the first time I saw that ending I was so mad I almost turned it off. The book version hits way harder because it makes you question who the real monster is, you know? The whole point is that Neville becomes the villain in their story. But Hollywood saw that and said nah, we need explosions and a heroic sacrifice. I get it, test audiences hated the sad ending, but come on, the theatrical one teaches you nothing. Its just boom, dog dies, sad guy gets revenge. The book ending stays with you for days, the movie ending just makes you go huh, cool CGI.
