My vet said my dog was 'reading for comfort' not 'reading for content'

After she told me that, I stopped photographing him on the fancy coffee table books and now I just put him on the crossword section every morning, has anyone else's pet got a favorite section of the paper?

My dog sat on my laptop for 2 years before I saw the actual evidence

I always joked that Charlie was reading my emails, but last Tuesday I left a printed manual on the couch and he sprawled right on page 47, nose pointed at a diagram like he was studying for something. Does your pet actually pick specific pages or is mine just a weirdo who likes the smell of toner?

My cat ignored the fancy poetry book, so I switched to a grocery receipt

I used to put all this effort into setting up photo ops with my cat Miso on expensive hardcovers and literary journals, thinking that's what this sub wanted. Someone commented that my cat looked bored and that the setup was too staged, which stung but I think they were right. Now I just toss a crumpled grocery receipt or a takeout menu on the floor and Miso plops right on it, like she's checking what I bought. The difference is wild, she actually sniffs and paws at the paper now, and the photos look way more natural. Last Tuesday she sat on a CVS coupon for a solid 10 minutes and it got twice the upvotes of my leather-bound attempt. Has anyone else found that their pet picks weird reading material over the nice stuff?

My cat sat on a 1987 lease agreement and suddenly I understood it

I was going through old paperwork from a property I managed in 2019 and my cat hopped right on top of this dense 14-page commercial lease, like he was studying it. He stayed there for 20 minutes staring at the fine print, and I actually noticed a clause about automatic renewal I'd missed every single time. Does anyone else's pet ever sit on something and make you see it in a totally new light?

Tried a floor pillow for my dog's reading spot, the kitchen stool won by a mile

I keep my dog Biscuit next to me while I flip through cookbooks at home, and last month I bought one of those plush floor pillows thinking she'd curl up on it like the photos online. She sniffed it once and walked straight over to my old wooden kitchen stool where I stack my open recipe books, then plopped her whole 60 pound self on top of the pages. I tested both for 5 days straight, same time of day, same book, and she chose the stool 4 out of 5 times. The pillow was too soft and wobbly for her, but the stool is stable and puts her right at reading level with me, like she's actually scanning the ingredients list. Biscuit even nudges the book with her nose when I pause too long, which never happened with the pillow. Anyone else have a pet that picks the weirdest surface over something made specifically for them?

My cat picks the newspaper over a $40 cat bed every time

Bought that fancy memory foam thing last month and she still sprawls across the crossword section at 7 AM. Has anyone else just given up and let their pet choose the reading spot, or am I the only one with a furry editor?

That $80 e-reader I bought is now a cat bed warmer

Bought a cheap e-reader last fall thinking it'd save my eyes. Now the cat sleeps on it every night, right across the screen. Cost me $80 and I still read on my phone. Anyone else's pet claim their tech instead of the actual books?

Turns out my dog was reading the spines, not the pages

I kept snapping pics of my lab resting his chin on open books for this group, thinking he was deep into chapter 3 or whatever. Last Tuesday I caught him doing the same pose on a closed cookbook, and realized he just likes the smell of glue. Has anyone else gotten fooled by their pet's fake reading habit?

Caught my cat staring at a car manual for 20 minutes straight

Yesterday I left the owner's manual for my 2009 Honda Civic on the couch and my tabby, Mabel, plopped right on top of it, nose pointed at a diagram of the brake system. She didn't move until I waved a treat bag, which made me wonder if she actually thinks those squiggly lines mean something. Does anyone else's pet sit like they're genuinely trying to decode the text, or is mine just really committed to the bit?
