My buddy in Denver swore by using a 60/40 leaded solder for everything, even modern boards.

I thought he was stuck in the past and kept using my lead-free stuff. Then I had to rework a BGA on a gaming console and the lead-free just wouldn't flow right, ruining the board. Switched to his old-school mix and the next one went perfect. Anyone else find themselves going back to older methods for certain jobs?

Shoutout to the show that finally got me to put my phone down

I have a real problem with scrolling on my phone while watching stuff. I tried to watch a new show called 'The Last of Us' last week and kept missing big moments. So I tried a trick I saw online: I put my phone in a different room and set a timer for 45 minutes, which is about one episode. The first ten minutes were hard, but then I actually got into the story. I noticed things like the way the characters looked at each other, stuff I would have missed. After three episodes, I didn't even want my phone back. It made the show feel way more intense. Has anyone else tried something like this to really get into a new series?

Just realized using a zip tie to hold the fuel line clip open saved me 20 minutes on a 6.7 Powerstroke injector swap.

I was fighting that stupid plastic clip for the third time last Tuesday and remembered a YouTube comment about using a small zip tie to lock it in the open position, which let me slide the line right off without breaking it.

Finally got the hang of that tricky flap motor alignment on a King Air 200

I was working on a King Air 200 at the hangar in Boise last Thursday, and the lead mechanic, Dave, showed me his trick with a laser level to check the rigging. I'd been fighting with a slight binding issue for an hour, and his method got it perfect in about ten minutes. Has anyone else found a better tool for that specific job on the 200 series?

Saw a horse with a really odd shoe setup at the county fair in Salem

I was walking through the draft horse barn at the Oregon State Fair last weekend and spotted a Belgian with these wide, flat shoes that looked almost like plates. The owner said his farrier in Eugene made them custom to help with a persistent sole bruise, using a special bar across the heel. It got me wondering about different corrective approaches for heavy breeds. Has anyone worked with a setup like that before?
