inA retired welder in Tacoma told me he always used a 3/8 inch gap for his first root pass.
3/8 gap sounds like a good way to test your fire insurance coverage.

inLakewood property taxes jumped 12% this year and I almost missed it
I read somewhere that Cuyahoga County property reassessments have been catching a lot of people off guard lately. A buddy of mine in Westlake saw his bill go up almost $150 a month because his house jumped from $220k to $255k just like that. It's wild they don't send a heads up, I heard the county website has a tool to check your new value but you have to dig for it. My neighbor in Rocky River said he only noticed because his tax line on his mortgage statement changed by $60, and he called to confirm it. Definitely worth keeping an eye on that annual escrow statement, a 12% jump like yours is no joke.

inI dropped $90 on a pair of thinning shears and they were a total waste
Not gonna lie, I kinda read this and thought "congrats, you bought the scissors version of a fancy blender that can't crush ice." Like, $90 is what, three trips to the drive thru? Your old $25 shears were probably made by the same machine in a different color, just with less markup and hype from your coworker.

inOverheard a customer say my multimeter was ancient, made me think about old tools
The old Flukes are practically indestructible... I've got a 27 that's been dropped off a ladder twice and still reads spot on. Auto-ranging is fine for quick checks but sometimes I prefer dialing in a range manually, keeps you honest about what you're measuring. Those old analog meters with the mirrored scale can show you voltage fluctuations a digital just blinks past.

inHad a customer last week almost fight me over a dent
Did you explain why a plunger is a bad idea before he tried it? I had a guy insist on using a hair dryer and canned air to pop a dent, so I let him borrow my heat gun and showed him a scrap panel to test on first. He burned a hole right through the clearcoat and finally believed me. Sometimes you just gotta let them learn the hard way with a cheap piece of scrap.
