That neighbor who told me to quit coddling my hens and let them free range

Hank probably thinks chickens are simple animals that just scratch around and eat bugs. The reality is they get attached real quick once they figure out you're the one who feeds them. My hens started following me to the mailbox after I let them roam the whole yard. Now I can't sit on the porch without them hopping up and settling down next to my chair like a couple of small, feathery guard dogs.

Found a goldmine of cheap cosplay parts at a local thrift store in Springfield

Your brain just starts scanning for shapes and textures instead of what the thing actually is." That's a pretty good way to put it. But let me ask you this - do you ever catch yourself doing it with things you'd never actually use? Like, I was at a restaurant the other day and saw those little plastic baskets they put fries in, and my first thought was it'd make a good helmet visor. I don't even eat fries that often. I had to stop myself from asking the waitress if I could buy one. It's like the habit gets so strong it starts working on junk you'd never actually turn into anything.

TIL swapping the order of our discussion topics fixed our debate problem

Our cat rescue group had the same problem. People would show up ready to argue about adoption policies and nobody wanted to hear it. I started making everyone do a quick "best cat fail of the week" before we tackled the serious stuff. @dylanh81, I get what you're saying about forcing engagement, but sometimes people need a warm up round before they can handle the heavy stuff. Like getting your brain moving before you try to deadlift, you know?

Warning: That board game cafe in Portland wrecked my collection

Learned that lesson the hard way at a church rummage sale years ago. Brought in a stack of old puzzles and left them on the swap table, came back twenty minutes later and some kid had already walked off with a vintage birdhouse kit I meant to keep. Now I'm paranoid about leaving anything unattended anywhere.
