Had to pick between the JMT and the Wonderland Trail for August

Was deciding between the John Muir Trail and the Wonderland Trail for a 10-day solo trip. Went with the JMT because of the longer distance and higher altitude. Anyone else make a similar call and regret it or feel good about it?

Switched from washing eggs under running water to using a dry scrub method

Used to rinse every egg with water before putting them in the fridge, but then I read that removes the bloom (the natural protective coating). Last month I started using a rough sponge to just brush off the dirt instead, and my eggs keep fresh way longer now - has anyone else made this switch?

Old timer told me to blue my plans before drafting...

I had this senior drafter named Frank at my last job in Toledo. He kept saying to spray adhesive my blueprints to a board before laying out new lines on top. I thought it was old school nonsense and just worked off my screen. Three weeks into a big commercial HVAC layout, I lost 40 minutes of work when my paper shifted mid-draw. Now I always blue them down first thing. Anyone else have an old school trick that actually saved them time?

Question about password managers and shared accounts at work

I work in a small office with 5 people and we keep sharing the same login for a few online tools by just passing the password around in Slack messages. Last week I noticed one of our accounts got accessed from an IP in a different country and I'm pretty sure it's because someone's work device got compromised. Has anyone found a good way to handle shared logins without just leaving passwords in plain text?

That time someone told me my edge painting looked like a 5 year old got into the markers

I used to just grab whatever acrylic paint I had laying around and slop it on the edges of my books real fast. Back maybe 4 years ago a lady in a Facebook bookbinding group told me I needed to thin my paint way down or use ink instead because the globs were all uneven and cracking. She was kinda harsh about it but she was right. Now I use a mix of Golden fluid acrylics and a little flow medium and do like 5 thin layers instead of 1 thick one. The edges come out smooth and actually flex with the pages now instead of chipping off. Total game changer for my rebinds. Anybody else get a critique that totally flipped how you do something?

Job on the 14th floor at Mercy General went sideways fast

I was swapping out a valve for the hydraulic unit in the elevator at Mercy General in Chicago. As I pulled the old one, a seal blew and dumped about 3 gallons of oil across the machine room floor before I could shut the line. Had to grab a mop and call the building manager to explain the delay - took me an extra hour to clean up and test the new valve. Anyone else ever have a minor swap turn into a major mess like that?

Finally got a halfway decent photo from a camera I thought was busted

I picked up a beat up Canon AE-1 from a garage sale last month for 15 bucks. The shutter sounded way off so I just assumed every roll would be toast. I shot a whole roll of cheap Fuji 400 anyway, just messing around in my backyard. When I got the scans back from the lab, maybe 4 frames actually came out clear and sharp. The rest are all over the place with light leaks and half the frame blacked out, but those 4 shots aren't bad. Has anyone else gotten lucky with a camera that looked totally dead?
