Spent $80 on a thermal leak detector and it already paid off

I grabbed one of those FLIR infrared camera attachments for my phone last month after my heating bill jumped to $220. Walked around the house and found cold air coming in around every single window frame and a big gap where the dryer vent goes outside. Caulked everything in one afternoon and my January bill dropped to $185. Anyone else try those phone camera thermal sensors or are they just a gimmick?

Overheard my neighbor saying her cat only meows at her when the fridge is open lol

My neighbor Sharon was telling her friend that her cat, Mittens, runs to the kitchen and yowls every time she opens the fridge door. She thinks Mittens is asking for food, but honestly I wonder if it's the sound or the cold air that triggers it. Has anyone else's cat got a weird obsession with fridge sounds?

Still think the solo stove is worth the hype after 8 nights with mine in the rain

Picked up a Yukon back in April thinking it'd be the greatest campfire ever. Took me exactly 8 different trips to finally figure out you can't just toss wet wood in there and expect magic like the videos show. Everyone raves about the smoke-free burn but nobody mentions how picky it is about fuel being bone dry. Has anyone else had to babysit their fire way more with one of these things?

Can we talk about my curling iron that basically exploded mid-client?

I was doing a blowout on a regular client last Wednesday, and my hot ass curling iron just started smoking and then the barrel actually cracked right in front of her face. Scared her and me both, honestly. I had to grab my backup wand from the drawer but it was a whole different size and the curl pattern came out uneven. Client was cool about it but I could tell she was a little annoyed by the time we finished. Now I'm wondering how often I should be replacing my hot tools because I've had that iron for like 4 years and I kinda thought they just lasted forever. Anyone else ever had a tool fail on them during a service? How do you know when it's time to toss something out?

Had to choose between the book's original ending and the movie's ending for my book club pick last month

I went with the book's sadder ending because I felt like it fit the characters better, but half the group said the movie's happier version would have made for a better discussion. Has anyone else dealt with picking one version over the other for a group read?

Overheard a flight attendant say carry on fees are coming to all budget carriers by summer

Was grabbing coffee at the airport last week and heard two crew members talking about how Spirit and Frontier are testing $50 carry on charges at the gate starting June. They said the trick is to pack everything in a personal item that fits under the seat, like a 16 inch backpack max. Anyone know if the discount airlines overseas already do this and how passengers get around it?

Warning: I tried using a beard trimmer on my client's stubborn split ends instead of shears and it actually worked better

After 15 years of fighting with dull blades on thick curly hair, I finally got a cleaner cut with a $30 Wahl clipper than my $200 shears - has anyone else had better luck with clippers over scissors for textured hair?

Shoutout to the foreman who caught my flange alignment error

Was fitting a 24-inch header on a job in Gary last Wednesday. Read the prints twice but still had the flange off by 3/8. Old foreman walked over, didn't say nothing, just tapped the backside with his wrench. Heard him mutter "she's leaning east" under his breath. Realized I was rushing because the welder was waiting. That one comment made me slow down. Anybody else have a senior guy save them from a dumb mistake with just a few words?

Shoutout to that 500-year-old pottery shard I nearly stepped on

I was out hiking near a creek bed in rural Kentucky last spring and almost crushed this tiny piece of pottery under my boot. Turns out it was a rim shard from a late Woodland period vessel, radiocarbon dated to around 1530. It mattered because that one shard helped link a seasonal camp site to a bigger settlement about 3 miles away that no one had connected before. Has anyone else found something that small that completely shifted how you saw a site?

Bought a cheap paint sprayer for my deck and it cost me more in the end.

Honestly, I grabbed a $60 sprayer from the hardware store to redo my deck last month, thinking it would save me a weekend. Ngl, it clogged constantly, wasted a ton of paint, and I ended up having to rent a proper one for another $40 to finish the job. What's a good mid-range sprayer that won't die on a big project?
