A barista in Chicago told me my drip coffee was bitter, so I changed my grind size

I always thought my pour over tasted fine until this one barista, Maria, tried a sip and said it was over extracted. She suggested I go coarser on my grinder setting, from a 12 down to a 7 on my old Encore. I felt dumb because I had been using the same grind for like three months, never thinking about the bean roast. I switched it up and the next cup had way less bite, more sweetness. Has anyone else had a total stranger's coffee criticism turn out to be spot on?
