Why does nobody warn you that adding a second POV 40 pages in breaks your whole first draft
Hit 38,000 words on my novel last week and realized my story only worked if the reader saw the sister's side, so I rewrote 12 chapters in 5 days and now nothing lines up. Has anyone actually saved a draft this far gone, or do I just start over?
My buddy Dave did almost the same thing on his third book. Swapped in a second POV at the 40k mark, spent two weeks patching it, then found out his timeline was off by a whole season. Snow in July. He printed the whole thing out, spread it on the floor, and taped note cards on the wall for each chapter. Took him a month but he saved it. Said the trick was writing a one page summary of every chapter first, then checking each one against it.
