I ran a half inch for years too and switched to a quarter inch about two years back after a buddy told me the same thing. The tighter gap keeps the carpet from pulling off the strip when the room gets hot, and I noticed way less buckling on berbers with stiff backs. That said, I still go wider if the drywall is wavy or the base is thin, cause you dont want the strip poking past the sheetrock. Try a quarter inch on your next few jobs and see if the callbacks stay away, that was the real test for me.

Did you send the video as an actual file or just a link? Because that matters more than people realize. A link can get taken down, expire, or get edited, but a video file with the date info baked in is a lot harder to wave off. I'd also email it to yourself the day you take it so there's a stamp on it that you didn't touch after the fact. What did your lease say about normal wear and tear, because scuffs from just living there usually aren't something they can charge you for anyway.
