Solved our furnace draft issue with a simple baffle adjustment.

The smoke was backing up into the shop every time we fired up. Adding a metal plate to redirect the airflow cleared it right up.

Stopped scoring fat caps on my pork bellies and the crackling is crisper.

After a batch where I forgot to score, the crackling was perfect, so now I skip it entirely.

Warning: The old school radio chatter vs. today's text alerts

Back in the day, we used crackly handheld radios that always died at the worst time. Now everyone has a phone in their pocket, and we just text or use apps to plan the cut. It's faster, but I kinda miss the teamwork of shouting signals and watching each other's hands. Still, fewer miscommunications mean safer jobs overall.

Years ago, I laughed at cash budgets. Today, that laugh paid for my camping gear.

Cash systems feel so painful when you first start them, like you're putting yourself in time out. Watching that envelope fill up for something fun makes the wait worth it though. My old rain jacket was a budget victory that still makes me smile. That smug feeling is the best reward.
