After a decade in salons, I still don't get why everyone hates on perms.

Perms can look amazing if done right, but stylists act like they're toxic.

At the salon I worked at in Chicago, we had to charge extra for perms because they take over three hours. Most stylists aren't trained well on new perm methods, so they avoid them. The chemicals can fry hair if left on too long, and clients blame the stylist. But a good perm starts with a deep condition treatment a week before. Look for stylists who show perm photos in their book, not just cuts. It's a niche skill now, so you have to find specialists who still do them right.
