Shoutout to the estate sale in Cedar Rapids that had two boxes for $5 and I grabbed the wrong one first
Went to an estate sale on Saturday off Collins Road and the lady running it had two boxes of old paperbacks marked $5 each. One was all Louis L'Amour westerns, the other was a mix with a beat up copy of The Long Goodbye by Raymond Chandler sitting right on top. I stood there for 10 minutes and picked the westerns because there were more books in it, then got home and saw the Chandler going for $40 online. Went back Sunday and she still had the other box, so I got it for $5 anyway. Anyone else ever grab the wrong box and get lucky on the second trip?
The "grabbed the wrong one first" thing has happened to me more than I'd like to admit. Mine was a box of old magazines at a garage sale, all National Geographics on top, so I passed. Came back an hour later and dug to the bottom, found a stack of old Mad magazines from the 60s. Nothing worth $40 but I still felt like a genius. The trick is to always dig through the whole box before you decide, because what's on top is usually just what they threw in last. Good on you for going back Sunday, most people would've just eaten the loss and moved on.
