Noticed new barbers blending too high up the head, makes everything look off

I was watching a guy do a fade on a walk-in last Tuesday and he kept his clippers an inch above the occipital bone. Soon as he turned the chair around the whole top looked flat and disconnected from the sides. It kills the shape because you lose the natural curve of the head. Anybody else see this a lot with newer people or is it just me noticing it more lately?

Watched the end of The Mist in a theater in Austin and half the crowd got up to leave

I was down in Austin last month visiting a buddy and we caught a late showing of The Mist at this old theater on South Lamar. You know the ending, right? The guy shoots his family and then the military rolls in like 30 seconds later. Well about 10 people actually walked out during the credits. One guy yelled "that's garbage" at the screen. My buddy thought the whole movie should have ended with them driving off into the fog instead. He said the hopeless ending just pissed him off and ruined the rewatch value. I kinda see his point but I think the gut punch makes it stick with you longer. Has anyone else had a theater experience where the ending literally cleared out the room?

Picked watching from my backyard over driving to the dark sky park last weekend

I had to choose between seeing the lenticular clouds over Mount Rainier from my yard or driving 45 minutes to the official dark sky park near Enumclaw. I stayed put and got a killer view around 7 PM when the sun hit them just right. The colors turned orange and pink for about 20 minutes straight. Anybody else pick a spot close to home and get surprised by how good it looked?

Tried booking a bus in Guatemala through a random site, got burned

Last month I used some discount aggregator for a ticket from Antigua to Lake Atitlan and ended up waiting 4 hours for a bus that never showed. Has anyone else had luck just showing up at the terminal instead of booking online?

I had a coolant line blow out on a 2015 Haas VF2 last Thursday

I was running a long cycle on some 4140 steel parts when I heard a loud pop and saw coolant spraying everywhere. The main line from the pump to the spindle had split right at a worn hose clamp. I shut the machine down, cleaned up the mess, and replaced the hose with a spare from our kit. Has anyone else had a coolant line fail like that, and what's your go-to fix to stop it happening again?

He was just tapping bricks into place with his trowel handle and they were perfectly level, while I was constantly checking and adjusting. It clicked that I was over-relying on the tool instead of trusting my eye and feel for the material. How many of you actually work mostly by sight and touch like that?

Faced a tough call on pump impeller material for a gravel job

We were starting a big gravel pit project near Spokane and the main pump needed a new impeller. The choice was between a standard chrome iron one for about $1,200 or a high-chrome alloy version that cost nearly double. I went with the cheaper option, thinking the material wasn't too abrasive. Two weeks in, the wear was way worse than I figured, and we lost almost a full day swapping it out for the tougher alloy. The downtime cost more than the price difference. Anyone have a good rule of thumb for judging material hardness on site before you order?
