A talk with a museum curator about old glass changed my whole approach to restoration.

I was working on a 1920s leaded glass transom in Sacramento last week, and the homeowner had a friend over who works at the local history museum. She pointed out how the original putty had a specific ratio of linseed oil to whiting, about 3:1, that made it more flexible. I'd been using a modern acrylic compound for years, thinking it was just better. Hearing her explain how the old mix was meant to move with the seasons, not fight them, really hit different. Has anyone else switched back to traditional recipes for period work?

My Orion Nebula shot got ruined by a neighbor's floodlight

I was set up in my backyard in Tucson last month, aiming for a 3 hour stack of M42. Around midnight, my neighbor turned on a new motion light that flooded my whole yard with bright white light. The last 45 minutes of data were completely washed out. I had to scrap those frames and work with just over 2 hours of exposure. Some folks say you should always talk to neighbors first, others say just pack up and find a darker spot. What's your move when local light pollution wrecks a session?

A simple comb trick for blending around cowlicks

I had a regular client with a stubborn cowlick on his crown that always made the blend look choppy. After three haircuts of struggling, I tried holding a fine-tooth comb flat against the area while using my clippers over it. The comb acts like a guard but lets you see exactly what you're cutting, and it smoothed everything out in one pass. Has anyone else found a good method for those tricky crown cowlicks?

Bought a popular 'procreate master pack' on impulse and the brushes are so textured they just make my line art look messy, anyone know some good clean ink brush sets instead?

My 'easy' slow cooker chicken tacos turned into a 4-hour wait because I didn't brown the meat first. Is that step really necessary?

I threw everything in the pot raw, like the recipe said was fine. But after 6 hours on low, the chicken was still weirdly rubbery and pale. I ended up pulling it out, browning it in a pan for 15 minutes, and putting it back for another hour. Total time was way over what I planned. Some people swear by browning for flavor, others say it's a waste of time for a slow cooker. What's your take? Do you always sear meat first, or just dump it in?

My power went out right before the big twist in Severance

I was on episode 7, the one where Mark finally goes down that hallway, and my whole block went dark for like 20 minutes. I was literally yelling at my laptop, lmao. Had to pace around my apartment with a flashlight until the lights came back on. Anyone else have a show ruined by a random power outage?

Am I the only one who thinks the ending of 'The Dark Knight Rises' was a cop-out?

I rewatched it last night and the whole 'Bruce Wayne is alive and living in Italy' thing feels like a cheat after all that sacrifice talk. It would have been way more powerful if Alfred just saw someone who looked like him and smiled, leaving it open. What's an ending you wish had more guts?

Vent: Had a 3/4-inch boiler tube let go on a pressure test in a Philly plant last Tuesday.

It was a brand new replacement from a supplier we've used for years, and it split right at the seam during the hydro. Anyone else had a bad batch of tubing come through lately?
