The thermal paste debate: less is more or gob it on?

Ngl, I used to think you needed a thick layer of thermal paste to get good heat transfer. But last month I rebuilt a Dell Optiplex 3020 and tried the pea-sized drop method for the first time. Temps dropped by 8c compared to my old spread-it-even method. On a $200 shop computer that's a big deal for longevity. So is there a real consensus here, or is it all just personal preference based on what you learned first?

I hit $87 in meal prep savings last week and it blew my mind

Used to spend $200 a week on takeout but when I actually tracked my grocery haul for 7 days straight I ended up at $113 for 21 meals and I didn't even buy the cheapest stuff, has anyone else crunched the numbers like that and been shocked?

My uncle told me to avoid a broker with a $500 account minimum

He said a low minimum often means they make money from hidden fees. I opened a $300 account with a different broker anyway, and my first withdrawal had a $25 charge not listed on their site. Now I see his point about reading the fine print. Has anyone else found a good broker that's clear about their fees from the start?

Just realized I was over-tightening coax fittings after a customer complaint

A homeowner in Tempe told me their internet kept dropping, and when I checked, the connector was pinched from my wrench. I switched to a torque wrench set to 30 inch-pounds, and the signal stability improved immediately. Anyone else have a specific torque they swear by for different fittings?

I cleaned the same chimney in my neighborhood twice, six months apart, and the buildup was way less the second time.

First time was in October for an old couple on Maple Street. The flue was packed, maybe an inch and a half of hard glazed creosote. Just did the spring cleaning for them last week, and it was maybe a quarter of that. The only thing that changed? They stopped burning those cheap, wrapped 'fireplace logs' from the gas station and started using properly seasoned oak I recommended. The before and after on the brush was crazy. Has anyone else seen a turnaround that fast just from a fuel switch?

My mentor told me to always charge for a color consultation and I thought it was a bad idea until a client in Portland tried to get me to match a five year old magazine photo for free.

That one hour I now charge upfront saves me from the 'just a quick question' folks who actually want a full custom formula and has anyone else found a good way to explain this fee without sounding rude?
