inThe difference in my kid's homework help from GPT-3 to GPT-4 is wild
Oh man, I feel called out. I tried to get it to teach me guitar once and it just gave me chord charts. Like, thanks, I have Google. But yeah, totally applies to everything. A good tutor doesn't just list steps to fix a flat tire. They warn you about the tricky bolt and tell you to keep the screws in a cup. It's that extra layer of "here's how people actually mess this up." Cooking is the same. Anyone can read a recipe. Teaching you how to not burn the garlic is the real skill.

inI used to think my dad was paranoid for writing his passwords on a piece of paper in his desk drawer.
Yeah, the "physical paper in a locked drawer" thing is smart. My friend's email got broken into from a data breach on some app, and now she keeps her main passwords written down at home too. It seems backwards but it actually works.

inRan into a guy at the con who made his Mandalorian armor from old plastic buckets
Yeah I read somewhere that @hugog43, the first try is always for learning what not to do. My stuff usually looks pretty rough until I get the basic shape right. It's just part of the process I guess.

inVent: I thought those new smart breakers were just a gimmick until one in a client's house in Austin flagged a failing appliance motor before it caught fire.
Felt the same way about smart leak detectors. Wrote them off as overpriced gadgets until I installed a few in a crawl space for a peace-of-mind client. Got a push notification about a slow drip from a pipe joint I never would have found in time. That one alert saved them from a huge mold problem down the road.
