Showerthought: I finally tried a broker's 'demo account' for real

For years I'd just open a demo, click around for five minutes, and then fund my real account. Last month, I forced myself to trade the demo on TradingView for a full two weeks like it was my own money, tracking every move. I lost 22% of the fake balance. The platform was fine, but I learned my own strategy was the problem, not the broker's tools. Has anyone else actually stuck with a demo long enough to learn something embarrassing about themselves?

TIL to always check the drain pump filter first, thanks to a flooded laundry room in Akron.

I was at a job in Akron last week for a washer that wouldn't drain. The homeowner was sure it was the pump. I pulled out the front service panel and found the little round filter completely packed with a sock and some coins. It took ten minutes to clear. Saved them the cost of a new pump and a service call. Anyone else have a go-to 'check this first' item for front-load washers?

Spent $45 on a new kind of steamer and it's been a game changer for extractions

I got tired of the old towel-over-a-bowl method for steaming faces before extractions. It felt messy and the heat never lasted. So I bit the bullet and bought a small, handheld facial steamer for about forty five bucks. The first time I used it on a client with really congested pores, the difference was huge. The steam was steady and warm for a full ten minutes, which really softened everything up without being too harsh. Extractions were so much easier and cleaner, and my client said it felt way more relaxing than the old way. It paid for itself in just a couple of appointments because the service felt more premium. Honestly, I wish I had bought one years ago. Has anyone else found a specific tool that made a basic part of your routine way better?

My uncle told me to plant a tree in my yard back in 2018

He said it would make a real difference for shade and the air. I planted a maple sapling that spring, and now it's over 15 feet tall. The spot where it grows is at least 10 degrees cooler in the summer, and I see way more birds. What's a simple thing someone told you to do for the climate that actually worked out?

Tried a new comms mask for a bridge inspection job

Honestly, I used my old full face mask with the built-in speaker for years, but this time I borrowed a buddy's Kirby Morgan with the separate push-to-talk unit. The difference in voice clarity was huge, especially when we were working near the piling jets. Anyone else find a specific piece of gear that just made comms way better?

Noticing fewer battery gripes in new gadget reviews lately

Honestly, I was looking at some recent stuff like phones and speakers, and the reviewers just aren't talking about bad battery life like they used to. Tbh, it feels like companies finally got the message that no one wants a cool gadget that dies by lunch. I used to toss old gear because the battery got bad, but now it seems things just last longer. It's a small win, but it probably cuts down on a lot of old tech going in the bin.
