Tried to forge a leaf keychain with my old claw hammer versus a proper cross-peen

The hammer left weird dents and took forever, but the cross-peen from my buddy's shop shaped the veins in maybe three heats. Anyone have a favorite hammer for small decorative work?

My old instructor in Milwaukee swore by a 16-ounce ball-peen for finish work. I thought he was nuts until I tried it myself.

That "finish work" line is funny, my old shop teacher called that a planishing hammer.
