inDrywall finisher told me my mud job looked like a 5th grader did it
Tbh Dave sounds like a real one. That 12 inch knife trick is a game changer once you get the hang of it. I had a similar moment when a painter next door walked over and told me to stop using tape and just cut in freehand. Felt dumb at first but now I can't go back.

inWhy I finally gave up on cardboard for my compost bin after reading one stat
Totally agree, that stat really hits hard. I had the same wake up call when I realized how much cardboard just sits in landfills instead of actually decomposing. It feels good to know we're making a smarter choice now, even if it means figuring out a different system for those endless Amazon boxes.

inDiscovered a cheap fix for squeaky stairs using baby powder
Yeah @hugog43, I did the baby powder trick on my stairs last year and it came back after about 6 months. But the second time I just dumped a bunch more in and it's been quiet for almost a year now. If you go heavy on the cracks, it should buy you at least a few months before you have to reapply. Definitely cheaper than graphite, and it doesn't make a mess like powder can.

inOverheard a landlord say vacancy is better than bad tenants
Screening tenants like they're job applicants stopped most of my headaches.

inTried using a spaghetti noodle to fix a stripped screw hole and it actually worked weirdly well
Used to roll my eyes at that kind of thinking but @amymiller you're totally right... the janky fixes somehow work better than the fancy ones sometimes.
