Tried vacuum bags for my 9 day trip to Denver and the ziploc bags won

I tested vacuum bags against plain ziploc bags for my 9 day trip to Denver and the ziplocs won because the vacuum bags made everything a brick that wouldn't fit around my shoes. The ziplocs squished down flat and I could still stuff my jacket in the gaps. Anyone else find that cheap bags actually pack better than the fancy ones?
