Vent: I thought the whole 'future log' thing was pointless busywork

I skipped it for months because my phone calendar seemed fine. Then I had to plan a family reunion in August and seeing the whole year on two pages actually helped me spot a conflict I'd missed. Do you really use yours or is it just for show?

Just realized my old way of dealing with Westlake road salt was making a mess

For years, I'd just use a regular broom to sweep the salt and grit off my garage floor and it would just kick up dust everywhere. About six months ago, I saw a neighbor using a damp mop on their concrete driveway apron. I tried it with a cheap string mop and a bucket of warm water with a little dish soap. It picks up all the residue without the cloud of dust, and my garage floor actually looks clean now. It takes maybe 10 extra minutes once a week, but it's worth it. Has anyone found a better solution for keeping the salt off the floor without tracking it all inside?

My grandma's recipe for pickled walnuts is about to be lost for good

I was helping clean out her house in Springfield last month and found her old jar of green walnuts. She used to make them every June, but nobody in the family has made them in over 15 years. Question about cleaning methods for iron artifacts

I was using a wire brush on some iron nails from a dig in Virginia, and a conservator from the Smithsonian told me I was basically scrubbing away the history. She said to switch to a soft bristle brush and distilled water, and to never use anything abrasive. I tried it on a nail from the 1700s and the surface detail is way clearer now. Has anyone else had to completely change their cleaning process after getting called out?

My friend told me to stop trying to win at Catan and just block people

Tbh, I always tried to build the longest road in Catan and lost. My buddy Mike said to forget winning and just mess with the leader by placing settlements to cut them off. Last game night, I did that to Sarah who was ahead, and she got so mad she couldn't expand. I ended up coming in second, which is way better than my usual last place. Has anyone else won more by just playing defense like that?

My old boss told me to never use carnations in a wedding bouquet

He said they were cheap filler and brides would hate them. I used them anyway for a budget wedding last month, and the bride loved the pop of color and scent. Anyone else have a 'rule' they were taught that turned out to be totally wrong?

Hot take: my great-aunt's 1970s jello salad recipe is a lost classic, not a gross relic.

I tried making her 'Sunset Glow' salad with lime jello, cottage cheese, and crushed pineapple last week, but the whole thing turned into a weird, separated soup because I used low-fat cottage cheese, which started a big fight with my mom about whether updating old recipes ruins them or saves them.
