My knee kicker snapped on a big job in Mesa last Thursday

I was stretching the last piece in a huge living room when the handle just broke clean off. Had to run to the nearest supply house, which was 20 miles away, and grab a new one. Finished the job three hours late, but the homeowner was super cool about it. Anyone have a favorite brand for a really tough kicker that can take a beating?

Overheard a builder in line at the hardware store talking about 'fast drying' leveler

He was telling his buddy he used a rapid set compound over a plywood subfloor and started laying LVP after just 90 minutes. Said it felt solid when he tapped it. That stuff can be tricky, and the top can feel hard while it's still curing underneath. I had a call back two years ago for a similar job where the floor failed after six months because the leveler wasn't fully set. It's not worth the rush. Has anyone else seen a job fail from putting flooring down too soon after leveling?

My plotter at the shop just ate a full D-size sheet for no clear reason

It happened yesterday afternoon right before a deadline. The feed rollers grabbed the Mylar, made a weird grinding sound, and then the whole sheet just bunched up inside. I had to power it down and carefully cut the paper out with a utility knife. Has anyone else had a KIP 3100 do this and know a quick fix for the feed sensor?

PSA: A customer in a 100-year-old house changed how I think about coax runs

He said, 'You know, the last guy just stapled it along the baseboard like it was a phone cord in 1998.' Made me realize I was getting lazy with my own runs in older places. How do you guys handle clean installs in historic homes without tearing up the walls?

A brake cable blunder made me start drawing repair diagrams

I figured sketches were a waste of time. Then a guy at the shop installed his front brake on the rear, and my simple picture cleared up his confusion. Now I sketch out repairs for all my clients.
