My grandpa's old camera tales gave me a repair insight
He would tell stories about fixing cameras back in the day. I never paid much mind until a similar issue came up. His advice saved me hours on a vintage model. It hit me that family history can be a hidden tool in this trade.

Remember trying to fix a sticky shutter on a 70s SLR. The modern forum said to buy a special cleaner, but my dad's old buddy just said to use a drop of lighter fluid on the gears. Worked perfectly. Yeah @dylan976, those old ways often skip the complicated fixes. Sometimes the simplest trick from someone who's been there beats any new guide.

Watched my friend fight with a hazy lens element for a week. He bought every modern lens cleaning kit, but this old fungus haze wouldn't budge. Then this retired camera tech at the flea market told him to try a tiny bit of household hydrogen peroxide on a swab. Cleared the haze right off the helical focus threads. My friend was stunned that the simplest, weirdest fix from some random guy was the one that actually worked.

Came across an article about how some old-timers' repair methods still beat modern guides. That hidden knowledge is legit.
