Just realized how much old belts can do for armor builds

I was at a small con in Springfield last weekend and saw someone's Mandalorian costume. The chest plate looked amazing, and when I asked, they said it was made from a cheap plastic trash can they cut up. But the real trick was the straps. They used old leather belts from a thrift store, about $2 each, and just painted them. I tried it for a Captain America build and it worked. The belts were way stronger than the craft foam I was using before. Has anyone else tried using thrift store belts for strapping or armor details?

Cheap plastic trash can" makes my duct tape armor look even sadder.

Seriously, that thin plastic would crack on the first hit. At least duct tape has some give to it, you know? You could maybe use the trash can for a single pauldron or something, but the whole thing? Good luck.

Honestly, my first belt armor attempt looked worse than @lindagreen's duct tape idea. Tbh, those thrift store finds are a total game changer for strapping.
