Our book club in Phoenix finally agreed on a book after using a new voting system

We kept getting stuck for weeks because two people would always veto the pick. Last month, I suggested we each list our top three choices and then use a points system, giving 3 points for a first pick, 2 for second, and 1 for third. The book 'Project Hail Mary' won with 17 total points, and everyone was actually happy with it. Has your group ever tried a points system like that to break a deadlock?

Love that points system idea, it sounds way better than just taking turns picking. My old group used something similar but we also added a rule where the person who picked last month couldn't have their first choice vetoed this time. Stops the same person from always getting blocked, you know? Makes the whole thing feel more fair over the long run.

That's a smart tweak to the system. It protects people from getting ganged up on over multiple months, which can totally happen. My old book club fell apart partly because two people kept vetoing the same member's picks out of spite. Adding a rule like yours would have saved us a lot of drama.
