A dryer belt snapped on me in the middle of a job in a tight apartment laundry closet

My first year as an apprentice, I was sure a pro could avoid those surprise breakdowns. Then I watched my lead tech snap a belt on a Whirlpool dryer in a mobile home, same exact situation. The drum was halfway on and everything. Now I keep a universal belt in my bottom toolbox no matter what the work order says. It taught me you can't plan for everything, but you can at least try to be ready for the common stuff.

Vent: My $40 'smart' thermostat decided the perfect indoor climate is a tropical 85 degrees... in February.

My smart fridge once tried to defrost itself in July, total meltdown. These things have a mind of their own sometimes.

I was reading an old telecom manual and found out the first coaxial cable for TV was laid in 1949

Honestly blows my mind that we still trust copper from 1949 to stream 4K.

That time I packed for a 10-day work trip in a 28L backpack

It's just a work trip, not a survival challenge.

Trying to get a photo of a perfect Kelvin-Helmholtz wave cloud took me two hours yesterday

My record is three hours staring at a blank patch of sky after a shelf cloud moved through. I was convinced another would form. @leelewis is right about the driving torture, but at least you're moving. I was just a statue on my lawn getting weird looks from the neighbors. The worst part was my phone died after the first hour, so I couldn't even scroll while I waited. Total waste of a perfectly good afternoon.
