Rant: My cat's sudden fear of the hallway took 8 months to fix, and I'm still not sure what finally worked.

I'm torn between thinking it was the new calming plug-in diffuser I got last month or if my cat just finally got over a random bad memory from last fall, so what's the longest a weird cat fear has lasted for you guys?

My buddy told me to skip the cheap sleeping pad, but I didn't listen

He said to spend at least $80 on a good insulated one for our trip to the Adirondacks last October. I bought a $25 foam pad instead and froze my butt off on a 35-degree night. I was so cold I barely slept. Anyone have a good insulated pad recommendation that won't break the bank?

Showerthought: I thought comic book grading was a total scam until I sold my old Amazing Spider-Man #300

For years, I saw those slabbed comics and thought it was just a way for companies to make money off collectors. I had my copy of Amazing Spider-Man #300 from when I was a kid, just in a bag and board. It looked fine to me. Then last year, I decided to sell it to help pay for a car repair. A buyer offered me $400 raw. On a whim, I sent it to CGC for grading, which cost about $50 and took six weeks. It came back a 9.2. I sold it for over $1,200. The detailed report showed things I never even noticed, like a tiny color break on the spine. It proved the book was real and in that specific condition. Now I get why some people swear by it, but it still feels weird to seal a comic in plastic forever. What's the line for you guys between protecting value and actually enjoying the book?

Had a total facepalm moment about torque specs on a 6.7 Powerstroke

I was replacing the turbo oil feed line on a 2015 F-250 last week, a job I've done maybe a dozen times. Always just gave the banjo bolt a good 'snug' with a 3/8 ratchet, never used a torque wrench. This time, the new line started weeping after the test drive. My foreman walks by, sees me about to crank it down harder, and just says 'spec is 18 ft-lbs, you know that, right?' I'd been going way over that for years. Grabbed a torque wrench, set it, and it sealed up perfect. How many other 'feel' habits are actually wrong? Anyone else have a simple spec they ignored forever?

Pro tip: I started using a cheap voltage tester from Harbor Freight for quick panel checks.

Last month on a job in Spokane, I was troubleshooting a DSC PowerSeries Neo that kept throwing false alarms. I mean, I spent like an hour checking connections before I grabbed my $7 tester and found a steady 13.8 volts on a zone that should have been closed. It was a bad resistor in a door contact I never would have spotted otherwise. Anyone else have a go-to cheap tool that saves your butt on weird faults?
