inMy buddy's whole 'flat earth' argument fell apart when I asked him to explain time zones.
Oh man, that's the whole playbook right there. I see it all the time with stuff like this (not just flat earth, but other wild theories too). When a simple, real-world fact wrecks the whole idea, they just jump to a bigger, unfalsifiable claim like "everything is faked." It's a way to never have to admit being wrong, because you can just say any proof against you is part of the lie. It gets exhausting.

inI finally tried writing from a villain's view for a whole month
Totally get that. I read an interview once where a writer said the villain's plan is what makes the story happen. If their reasons are weak, the whole plot feels fake. Your month-long experiment sounds like it fixed that flat feeling. So maybe the villain isn't the key, but a strong one sure unlocks everything else, right?

inSpent $300 on a new drywall lift and it's been a total game changer for ceilings.
Notice how people ALWAYS ask that. It's like we're trained to think a tool or a paint only works on one surface. My neighbor did the same thing with floor cleaner, refused to use it on the tile backsplash. We put things in boxes and miss the whole point.

inMy cat's new cat tree turned into a total disaster zone
Oh man, that's rough! My cat did the same thing with a new scratching post once. She knocked it over and then gave it the stink eye for a week.

inI spent $17.42 on a single dinner for one person
Ugh, that's the worst! It's those "special" ingredients that get you every time. I tried making a "simple" curry once and the recipe needed a whole jar of some fancy spice paste and fresh lemongrass. That one meal cost more than my usual weekly grocery run. It feels like those recipes are designed for people who already have a fully stocked kitchen, not someone starting from scratch. You're totally right, the real savings is in the super basic staples, not trying to be a gourmet chef on a Tuesday night.
