Rant: A simple granite slab identification turned into a three day puzzle

A client in Phoenix wanted to know if their kitchen counter was 'real' granite or a lookalike. I told them to do the scratch test with a key, expecting a quick answer. The key left a mark, which should mean it's softer than quartz, but then the acid test didn't react at all. I spent the next two days digging through old geology texts and calling a buddy who works in a quarry before we figured out it was a specific, dense gneiss that polishes up like granite but has different properties. Has anyone else had a common test totally backfire on them?

Vent: I dropped $250 on a cheap signal meter and it gave me a false positive that cost me half a day.

I got a 'good' reading at the tap but the issue was actually a chewed drop line three houses down, so what's a reliable mid-range meter you guys actually trust?

Finally got my line art to stop looking wobbly after two years of trying

I've always had shaky hands, so my digital line work looked like a kid drew it with a mouse. I tried every stabilizer setting in Clip Studio Paint, from 1 to 100, and nothing fixed the jitter. Last month, I saw a random comment on a forum where someone said to stop drawing from your wrist and try using your whole arm for long lines. I thought that was silly advice for a tablet, but I gave it a shot. I propped my elbow up on my desk and made myself draw from the shoulder, even though it felt weird. The difference was crazy. My lines are way smoother now, and I don't have to rely so much on the undo button. Has anyone else found a weird physical trick that fixed a digital art problem?

My local comic shop's potluck revealed something cool about fans

Last weekend, my comic book club had a potluck at the local shop (we do this every few months). I decided to make these little pizza rolls inspired by Deadpool, because, you know, he loves chimichangas but I wanted something easier. I used store-bought dough and filled it with pepperoni and cheese, then cut them into little X's like his logo. Everyone went nuts for them, and it started a whole conversation about other character-themed foods we could try. One guy brought Batman cookies with little bat symbols, which was pretty clever. It's funny how food can bring fans together and spark these creative ideas. Now I'm thinking about making a Hulk-themed green dip for the next meetup. Stuff like this really makes the fandom feel more like a community, you know?
