PSA: I just wasted $80 on a 'fast-drying' grain filler that took 3 days to cure.

The can said 2 hours, but it stayed tacky and ruined the schedule for a whole dining set. Anyone found a filler that actually dries as fast as it claims?

Timbermate's water-based filler dries in an hour.

Yeah, and that fast dry time is a game changer for bigger jobs. I filled a bunch of nail holes in some trim last week, and I could sand and paint the same afternoon. It doesn't shrink much either, so you rarely need a second coat. Makes the whole process way less of a hassle.

Man oh man, I feel this SO much. I tried to be a big shot and fill a whole window frame with some cheap spackle last year, and it took like three days to dry. I ended up with a dent in it from my cat walking across the sill because I got impatient and left it open. Now I just stick with the fast stuff so I don't ruin my own work with my terrible impulse control. You're totally right that the no-shrink thing is the real MVP though. My stupid mistakes get covered up way quicker when I don't have to do a second round. It's like the filler is smarter than me, honestly.
