A client in Denver told me my shellac finish looked 'plastic' and it made me switch to a 2lb cut.
I was using a 3lb cut for years, but that one comment made me realize it was too thick and shiny. Has anyone else had a finish called out for looking fake?

Honestly, a client said my varnish looked like cheap laminate once.

Burns.pat is right, that kind of blunt feedback, even if it hurts, can actually help you see your work differently. It makes you stop and really look at the finish. A comment that pointed can save you from making the same choice again for a client who might not speak up.
